Margaret River Area Lost Wedding Ring Search

Margaret River - Famous for its huge Surf Breaks

Margaret River - Famous for its huge Surf Breaks

I received an email today from a lady in the Margaret River area, who informed me her son lost his wedding ring whilst swimming in a dam full of Freshwater Marron last year.

Margaret River is famous for its beautiful wines, big surf breaks, nice cheeses and beautiful beaches.   It is located around 300kms South of Perth – Western Australia.

I have arranged to go down to the area within a week to carry out a fresh water metal detecting search for the lost ring.

I just hope I don’t get bitten by a big marron!   I have however hinted to the lady if she could spare a couple of Marrons!

Marrons are a freshwater crayfish nativce to Western Australia, they taste beautiful and grow as big as a lobster or crayfish.

So if anyone reading this has lost any rings, jewellery, and other valuable items, in the Margaret River, Augusta, Bunbury, Dunsborough, Busselton areas please get in touch with me to organise a lost ring search and recovery.

If I find the time, I’ll also be heading to the beaches to do some metal detecting for myself with my minelab metal detector

The photo below is not me holding the Marron, just a good pic I found to show you the size of them!

Busseton Beach Lost Gold Ring Search Unsucessful

Busselton Beach where the Ring was Lost

Busselton Beach where the Ring was Lost

My search for the Lost Ring in Busselton was unsuccesful, I spent 5 hours both in the water and on the beach looking for the ring, I cannot understand why I could not find it, because Boris knew exactly where the ring was lost, the area where the ring was lost in a beach which is very shallow.  You can walk 20 metres into the water and still the water is only up to your waist.

The beach does not have any waves, there is not rocks around the beach, it is just pure white sand.

There are three possibilities about the location of this ring. Firstly someone else has already found the ring, the beach is frequented by quite a few people walking along the beach, people walking dogs and people swimming.

Secondly  Tropical Cyclone Bianca caused very windy weather on the night that Boris lost his ring, so there is a chance that the ring could have been taken into deeper water.

Thirdly, about a metre from where the ring was lost are small wooden pylons (see image to left), there is a good chance that the ring is lodged somewhere on these pylons… mind you I dug alot of sand from around each pylon, hoping I might dig out the ring, but no luck. The reason I dug the sand away was because these pylons have large steel bolts lodged in them, and I could not move my metal detector anywhere near them without getting interferance.

I believe that scenario one and three are likely.

I am so sorry that I could not find this ring, unfortunately not all of my lost ring searches are successful.

Busselton Unsuccessful Lost Ring Search

Busselton Beaches are perfect for Beach and Underwater Metal Detecting

Busselton Beaches are perfect for Beach and Underwater Metal Detecting

On Monday I received a phone call from a lady who told me that her husband had lost a gold ring the day before on a Busselton Beach.

Her husbands name is Boris, and Boris lost his ring when he was collecting shells with his children in the shallows. What Boris was doing, was he was on his knees and digging his hands into the wet beach sand to collect the shells, and then allowing the moving water to wash through his hands the sift the sand away and to reveal the shells.

Later in the day, Boris noticed that his ring was missing. This ring was a special gift from his wife and his parents, maybe a congratulatory gift, I’m not really sure.

I recieved the phonecall around 11am Monday morning, Boris’s wife wanted me to drive to Busselton, a 600km return trip, it was a bit late in the day, but I could hear the urgency in Boris’s wifes voice. My business Partner Natalie said it was fine that I go to Busselton and she would look after the Post Office in the meantime.

So off I went to Busselton.

I arrived around 4pm late that afternoon, a lot later than what I expected to arrive there, so already the sun was starting to go down.

I thought that I’d find Boris’s ring in a few minutes, because this beach is always very calm, and there are never any surf waves in this area and basically the beach is just a stretch of white sand and very shallow water.

Well I thought wrong, I had no luck finding this ring after three hours of wading, snorkelling, and detecting.

Boris actually lost his ring right next to a small straight line of wooden pylons, so I thought there would be a great chance that his ring would have washed in and around those pylons.

But the problem was that those pylons had large metal bolts in them, and these bolts would not allow me to get my metal detector near wear the lost ring could have been lodged in the sand around them. I even used my Stealth Sand Scoop to dig around them but to no avail.

After around 3 hours of searching, I told a disappointed Boris, that I would have to give up the search, I could see the disappointment in his eyes. I did not want to go, because I really wanted to find that lost ring, but I had no choice, it was on the verge of darkness and I hard to drive the 300km’s back to Dumbleyung.

The trip back is on a pretty hairy road, in which around 6 people have lost their lives on over the last 12 months, and plus the bush on the side of the road is a home to thousands of kangaroos. The last thing I wanted was to hit a roo, in my new Hyundai Van.

We parted ways, Boris gave me some money for fuel, for which I really appreciated.

11pm that night I got home, exhausted, but glad to be home and went straight to bed.

The next day I received a text from Boris, asking if I could go back down to Busselton to find his ring.

Well, I am thinking of going back down to Busselton this Saturday, to find Boris’s ring, I’ll stay at a caravan park in my van and sleep in my swag…. with the hope of finding Boris ring!

If I can find a clients ring, I’ll always give it a second chance, I am dedicated to my job, I love my job, metal detecting is the best job in the world… even when sometimes I’m not successful.

Happy Bunbury Lady Reunited With Her Lost Wedding Ring

I help people find there lost jewellery, here is a video story on another successful lost ring search. Read my metal detecting story

Another Lake Lost Rings Search – Lost 25 Years Ago!

A few weeks ago I mentioned to one of my old mates Stewie, about my metal detecting hire services, and was telling him some stories about how I help people find their lost wedding rings, jewellery, money and all the other things that I find with my Minelab Metal Detectors and he his face lit up.

I asked him what was he smiling about, and he told me that around 25 years ago, he was water skiing close to the shores of Lake Dumbleyung on a hot summers day. Being a novice water skiier, he fell off after hitting some wave wash.

To cut a long story short, he told me he and his newly wed wife Tina, were out at the lake with friends, and she was wearing both her wedding ring and engagement ring, and she knew there could be a risk of losing them in the water.

So she took them off and gave them to Stewie for safe keeping, and Stewie stupidly put them in the pocket of his shorts, thinking that they would be safe.

Anyhow Stewie forgot all about the rings in his pocket, and probably had a few beers too many and decided it was time for a ski on the water.

Yep, you guessed it, Stewie jumps in the water, puts some skiis on, falls off straight away, has another go, then gets back into the boat. On return to the ski club, Tina asks for her wedding and engagement rings, and Stewie pats his pockets telling her the rings are safe and sound, and then he feels nothing in his pockets.

It hit Stewie that he has obviously lost the rings in the Lake where he fell off, Tina is absolutely furious and now 25 years later, Tina is still furious with Stewie and I have eased the tension by telling them both that maybe I can find them with my metal detectors.

This search will be a hard search, Lake Dumbleyung is huge, but Stewie has a good idea still to this day where he believes the rings fell out of his pocket.

So soon when the weather cools off a bit I will be heading out to the Lake to hopefull reunite Stewie and Tina with the lost rings.

Currently Lake Dumbleyung is bone dry, and it is Summer weather here in Western Australia, so I am waiting for a cool day, because when detecting on the Lake on a hot day, the white salt reflects all the heat onto my body, so it is like an oven and the flies are really bad.

This Wedsneday it is going to be 42 degrees celcius, way to hot to Metal Detect!

I’ll keep you updated, and if I find them, I will believe that miracles do happen!

I have previously found rings at Lake Dumbleyung, so you just never know.

Wedding and Engagement Rings Lost 80 Years Ago – Will I Find Them?

Unfortunately over the last few weeks, I have been unable to head out on any metal detecting jobs as I have just bought a new business, a Post Office / News Agency in the Great Southern town of Dumbleyung.

So I have been working 12 hours a day, 7 days a week, trying to get into the routine of my new business venture with my girlfriend Natalie.

So now my metal detecting hours and jobs are very restricted, to the weekends only.

Anyhow having my new business has enabled me to find some interesting future metal detecting hunts.

Today I was talking to a lady who informed me that her Grand Mother, lost both her Engagement Ring and Wedding Ring on the same day at a local lake, not Lake Dumbleyung, but another Lake near the town.

Believe it or not, her Grand Mother lost her Wedding and Engagement Rings at the Lake around 80 years ago when she was in her early 20’s.

Apparently her Gandmother, lost these rings on the shore of the lake at a picnic gathering.

WOW! What a story that would make! Her Grandmother has since passed away, but it would be such a great story, to reunite her Grand Daughter with these lost rings.

This has given me a huge buzz of excitement, as I know for a fact that this Lake has never been metal detected, and there would be a great chance of finding other lost momentos, such as jewellery, coins and much more.

So this weekend, I am going to ride my Polaris 6 Wheeler out to this Lake, and do a thorough search of the Lake to see if I can find these rings which were lost in the 1920’s.

I am pretty excited about this metal detecting ring search.

Do you think I will find them? Stay Tuned!

Gold and Rubies

Beautiful Gold Ring with Nine Rubies

Beautiful Gold Ring with Nine Rubies

The other day when I was searching and beach metal detecting for a clients lost Silver St Christophers Pendant, Silver Necklaces And a Silver Ring at Scarborough Beach I found plenty of coins, but also a beautiful Gold and Ruby Ring which must have been lost recently, most likely by a overseas tourist as the Beach is right opposite the 5 Star Observation City Hotel.

Unfortunately I did not find my clients lost jewellery, but was very happy to find this beautiful Gold Ring with Nine Rubies on it.

Happy to reunite this ring with its original owner, but the person must be able to identify some of its unique characteristics.

2 Lost Rings, a Buried Rifle and a Lost Gold Chain!

I have done 5 ring  and lost jewellery metal detecting searches over the last 4 weeks and I have no success in finding the lost rings for my clients.

Lost Gold Chain

I received a phonecall from Guy who informed me his 4 year old daughter was playing with his thick gold chain in the backyard and she was throwing the gold chain high in the air and trying to catch it. Apparently this was a game she played on a regular basis.

This time she threw the gold chain and she told her dad that she did not her the chain land.

So Guy calls me in to do a search of his yard and surrounding areas.

It was a very frustrating search, because Guy was just relying on what his 4 year old daughter told him.

There could have been many scenarios about the lost gold chain such as follows.

  • She broke the chain and was too scared to tell her father, so she hid it.
  • Maybe she has hidden the chain from her Dad to put in her Glory Box to save for when she is a Big Girl!
  • Maybe the chain ended up high in a tree

Many more scenarios that could have happened.

Anyhow I went back to Guys place twice in the hunt for the lost chain, I searched up trees in his yard, on the other side of the fence which is very sandy soil.

Guy also informs me that the grass on the other side of the fence was mowed by a tractor mower after the chain was lost,  so the chain could have ended up in pieces, chewed up by the mower.

Lost White Gold Wedding Ring

I got a call from Kate telling me she lost her ring when she was doing some gardening in her yard, and she noticed a day later that the ring was missing. So I went over and did a thorough search of the front and back yard of her place.

Unfortunately no ring was found. I told her there would be a good chance that maybe her ring was thrown out with the garden waste. I hate not finding rings for my customers! So frustrating.

Buried Hunting Rifle

This is a very unusal search, I got a phonecall the other day to help search for a buried hunting rifle which was buried by the deceased father of a kangaroo shooter on a rural property some years ago.

I don’t ask too many questions, I just do my job, there was nothing illegal about this buried rifle, it was buried for a reason I won’t go into.

The son was only had a vague recollection to the whereabouts of the rifle, so basically we were acting on a hunch to the location.

Anyhow, I spent around three hours search for the lost rifle, once again no luck in finding it.

Lost Gold and Diamond Ladies Engagement Ring

Tonight I did a two hour search on Watermans Beach for a lost gold engagement ring, the girl had the ring removed her ring from her finger and put the ring on her leg as she applied the sunscreen oil on herself. She then stood up and immediately felt the ring fall off her leg. In a frantic panic her and her finance immediately started search for the ring and could not find it.

She called me today to ask if I could help. And of course I said I could and arranged to meet her at Watermans Beach near Hillarys Boat Harbour. They new the exact location of where the ring was lost and I started doing a grid search of the area. Two hours later I was still searching and ended up finding only a few coins and plenty of junk rubbish.

So I only presume either another Metal Detectorist has already found the ring, which was lost 2 days ago, or maybe the ring has been washed out to the water by the high tide.

So if you are a person who metal detects in that area, and have found it, please get in touch with me, and you’ll get a reward for the return of the ring to the girl who is obviously very upset about losing her ring.

End Note!

When it comes to helping people find their lost rings, jewellery and other items of value, just because someone loses or hides something, it does not mean that the lost item is going to be found by myself.

Things to take note of are as follows:

  • Someone else, such as another person with a metal detecto may have already found it
  • A Bird may have picked it up … Crows and Ravens collect shiny silver and gold things to attract mates to their nests
  • It may have been washed away with the tide
  • It may have been moved by a machine, such as a lawn mower, grader, beach vacuum machine etc
  • Million more scenarios!

Remember, if you have lost your ring, I can’t guarantee you that I will find it, but I promise you I will do my best trying. There is nothing better that finding a customers lost ring, and bringing back a smile to their faces.

How much do I charge?

I charge nothing at all to search for your lost item, but my services is based on a reward only if found basis that is, if I find your lost ring, jewellery etc, then it is up to you what you’d like to give me as a reward.

Carlos’s Lost Gold Wedding Ring Found by Tony

Carlos very happy after being reunited with his lost wedding ring!

Carlos very happy after being reunited with his lost wedding ring!

Sometimes I get a phonecall for a Metal Detecting job, which unfortunately I cannot do due to myself being too busy with other commitments, such as house renovations I am currently doing, but I have some great contacts in Perth who can do the jobs for me.

Last night I received a phonecall from Carlos who is from Brazil and currently living in Perth with his wife. Carlos told me that he lost his ring at Mosman Park near the Swan River, and obviously was pretty distressed about losing his ring. I told him I could not do the job, but if he emailed me his contact details, and description of the ring and how he lost it, I would forward the details to a few friends in Perth who also do Metal Detecting.

So anyway I got his email and emailed my mates, and asked if any of them could help out.

First in first served, and my friend Tony was the first to reply and said he could do the job today.

Thanks Tony!

Carlos's Lost Ring Found!

Carlos's Lost Ring Found!

He is an email I received from Tony today about the search!

Billy,

What an amazing find….yeah, I found it alright.

I picked up Carlos from his house and we drove down to the river beach area.

When we got to the spot, I realised that Carlos had been digging and sifting for his ring. There were big mounds of sand and a trench area where he had been digging. He told me he had spent 5 hours digging and sifting for it.
He’d actually bought a “metal detector” from Cash Converters and has been sifting through a section of flyscreen.

Not good I thought.

I powered up the Sovereign (max everything) and spent an hour going over and over the area, trying to flatten his huge piles of sand.
I tried the water’s edge to about 1 foot deep…nothing but crap. I dug every signal…pulltabs, sinkers, coins but no gold ring.

I could see his eyes light up every time I dug something but no gold.

I had covered the area and then some. I realised the ring wasn’t going to be found, probably buried under his mounds of sand.
I’d pretty much given up.

I told him I’d try for 5 more minutes down again at the water’s edge.

I’d really only gone there to wash the sand of the coil. Well, can you believe it….another nice tone and there in the bottom of my hand scoop was a bloody huge two tone 18k gold ring.

I washed it off and then turned around to face Carlos……the look on his face was fantastic.

We were both totally stunned….I think he was trying hard to not cry but it was very emotional for him.

His wife will be very happy.

Carlos is here working whilst his wife studies. Carlos is an Olympic K1 kayaker…might be representing Australia or Brazil in coming Olympics.

All of my services were totally free…I insisted. We are going to have a few beers next week to celebrate.

I took some pics. The close up wasn’t the best but the other two show a very happy Carlos.

Carlos wanted to also personally thank you for your website service.

Talk soon,
Tony

Just like to personally say thanks Tony for helping Carlos find his ring today! Well done mate!

Thanks for reading my post!

I love my job!

Ring Lost Two Years Ago Gardening

I received an email a few days ago from Rachel, who told me her husband lost his wedding ring whilst gardening a year ago, so I am heading up to Perth today to do a search of their backyard with the aim of finding the ring for them.

It could be a hard job, because there could be a chance that the ring was accidently thrown out with the garden waste, but you never know your luck, it could be there under the top soil of the garden.

So if your in the surrounding Perth  and lost something and looking for a Perth Metal Detector Hire service, contact me and I may be able to find your lost treasures

UPDATE!

I had no luck in finding this lost wedding ring, but I have arranged with Rachel to do a future search of their yard in the near future.

Thanks for reading my post!
