$10,000 Buried Cache Found!

Billy (LostTreasure.com.au Author) Holding the Found Cache of Money

Billy (LostTreasure.com.au Author) Holding the Found Cache of Money

A few days ago I wrote how I had received an email from John, who told me that he buried money, and could not find it.

Well I arranged to meet John at his house to carry out a metal detecting search of his backyard to find the buried money.    I asked John what caused him to bury the money and basically he said that he did not trust banks and burying it would be the safest way. Previously he had buried $20,000 in two jars which he managed to find no problems, but the missing $10,000 that he emailed me about was nowhere to be found.

Day 1

I arrived at Johns house and immediately started metal detecting in the area where he said that he believed he buried the cache of money about 12 months before hand. As per usual with backyard metal detecting searches, I knew I would start getting immediate signals from other pieces of metal, coins, bottle caps, rusty nails, aluminum foil and much more.

John told me that he buried the money in a glass jar, the money was wrapped in aluminum foil and plastic wrap, so I was looking for a good sound that would correspond to “aluminum foil”

John had previously digged in the area where he said that the money was buried, and I told him, that would likely make the hunt harder, because of all the misplaced top soil and so forth.

This search was prooving far more difficult that what I had expected, within a couple of hours we had dug away around a tonne of soil, this was because of all the trash metal in the ground. I asked John how deep did he remember burying the money and he said around 3 foot deep, so I was a bit wary that my detector would pick up a signal that deep. That is one of the reasons that I decided to remove a couple feet of the soil.

It was really hard work, hot and sweaty, I arrived at his place around 3pm and by 6pm I was still there, it was getting dark and both John and I were getting tired. I also started to doubt Johns story, thinking that maybe he did not bury it at all, or if he did, he had already dug the money up and forgot about it.

John also told me he marked the asbestos fence with a small X which would correspond to the place where he buried the money, I searched the fence for the X but could not find it.

I also question myself, maybe someone saw John burying the money, and stole it, or even maybe one of Johns close friends stole it.

I told John, that it was time to stop digging, and to re-evaluate the situation, I question him numerous times about the hidden stash of money, asking such things like “Are you sure this is the spot?”,  ”Did you tell anyone?”, “Is there by chance you’ve already dug it up?” and many other questions.

All of which he was certain and answered the right questions.

Anyhow I decided to call it a day and to come back the next day to continue with the search.

I left John’s place, rather dissapointed not to have found his hidden cache of money.

Day 2

I arrived at Johns place uncertain, but still confident that I would find the money for John.

Like the day before, we dug and dug and dug! I metal detected the whole area over and over. I also made myself the day before a “Money Probe” A long thin piece of steel with a footrest to push 3 – 4 feet  into the soil, hoping that the probe would hit the jar under the top soil.

Once again it was starting to get dark, and there was no hope of finding the money.

Then I asked John about when he marked the fence, and then I decided to go over to the asbestos fence again to have a closer look for the X he said he marked as the spot near where the money was supposed to have been buried.

And guess what, I found the X marked on the wall, and told him I found the X, we then went one of the spots where John said he had buried his last cache of money, and I decided to dig the shovel there.

$10,000 in Buried Money Retrieved! $10,000 in Buried Money Retrieved!

I dug about two foot of soil out, then waved my metal detector over the hole, I heard a very very faint signal. Then I grabbed the shovel off John, and dug out another two foot of soil. As I shoveled the soil, I noticed a plastic lid land in the mound of soil.

We both looked at the jar lid, and then I quickly hopped onto my knees with started digging with my hands.

I felt something plastic, the jar, (the jar he told me was glass) and inside the jar, I felt the aluminum foil and I yelled out “I GOT IT!” and then I pulled out the money like a little excited kid, show John and we literally ran around the yard in excitement!

John was screaming out, “WE GOT IT, WE GOT IT! YOUR A CHAMPION BILLY!” and he ran inside to tell his girlfriend, she was excited too.

Wow, I was really excited and so satisifed that I found the huge cache of hidden money.

We went inside John’s house, I had a glass of water, and John laid out all of the money on his dining table. And that’s when I took a photo of the cache.

I asked John if I could take a photo of him holding the money, but he declined, saying he did not want his face on the internet for fear of family and friends seeing his photo. So instead John took a photo of me holding his wad a cash … a cool $10,000 dollars.

John gave me a huge reward for finding his money, my best reward to date, so thanks heaps John!

John’s a really nice bloke, very genuine and trustworthy, I suppose you must be trustworthy when you ask a stranger to help find ten thousand dollars buried in your backyard!

Carlos’s Lost Gold Wedding Ring Found by Tony

Carlos very happy after being reunited with his lost wedding ring!

Carlos very happy after being reunited with his lost wedding ring!

Sometimes I get a phonecall for a Metal Detecting job, which unfortunately I cannot do due to myself being too busy with other commitments, such as house renovations I am currently doing, but I have some great contacts in Perth who can do the jobs for me.

Last night I received a phonecall from Carlos who is from Brazil and currently living in Perth with his wife. Carlos told me that he lost his ring at Mosman Park near the Swan River, and obviously was pretty distressed about losing his ring. I told him I could not do the job, but if he emailed me his contact details, and description of the ring and how he lost it, I would forward the details to a few friends in Perth who also do Metal Detecting.

So anyway I got his email and emailed my mates, and asked if any of them could help out.

First in first served, and my friend Tony was the first to reply and said he could do the job today.

Thanks Tony!

Carlos's Lost Ring Found!

Carlos's Lost Ring Found!

He is an email I received from Tony today about the search!

Billy,

What an amazing find….yeah, I found it alright.

I picked up Carlos from his house and we drove down to the river beach area.

When we got to the spot, I realised that Carlos had been digging and sifting for his ring. There were big mounds of sand and a trench area where he had been digging. He told me he had spent 5 hours digging and sifting for it.
He’d actually bought a “metal detector” from Cash Converters and has been sifting through a section of flyscreen.

Not good I thought.

I powered up the Sovereign (max everything) and spent an hour going over and over the area, trying to flatten his huge piles of sand.
I tried the water’s edge to about 1 foot deep…nothing but crap. I dug every signal…pulltabs, sinkers, coins but no gold ring.

I could see his eyes light up every time I dug something but no gold.

I had covered the area and then some. I realised the ring wasn’t going to be found, probably buried under his mounds of sand.
I’d pretty much given up.

I told him I’d try for 5 more minutes down again at the water’s edge.

I’d really only gone there to wash the sand of the coil. Well, can you believe it….another nice tone and there in the bottom of my hand scoop was a bloody huge two tone 18k gold ring.

I washed it off and then turned around to face Carlos……the look on his face was fantastic.

We were both totally stunned….I think he was trying hard to not cry but it was very emotional for him.

His wife will be very happy.

Carlos is here working whilst his wife studies. Carlos is an Olympic K1 kayaker…might be representing Australia or Brazil in coming Olympics.

All of my services were totally free…I insisted. We are going to have a few beers next week to celebrate.

I took some pics. The close up wasn’t the best but the other two show a very happy Carlos.

Carlos wanted to also personally thank you for your website service.

Talk soon,
Tony

Just like to personally say thanks Tony for helping Carlos find his ring today! Well done mate!

Thanks for reading my post!

I love my job!

Patience pays off in Metal Detecting for Lost Ring

Bricky - Relieved to have his Lost Gold Wedding Ring back!

Bricky - Relieved to have his Lost Gold Wedding Ring back!

A few days ago I wrote how I received a phone call from Bricky to find his lost ring which he lost as he held his hand out of the passenger side window in his car as it was moving at 110km/h.

Yesterday I met Bricky in Williams – Western Australia and following him for about 70km’s to the spot where he said that he lost his wedding ring.

It was a miserable day yesterday, cold, windy and very rainy. The spot where he lost it was on the Boddington to Mandurah highway, and it just happened to be next to one of Boddington’s gold mines.

I donned my fluro yellow safety pants and my raincoat and the search was on.

It was quite frustrating due to the amount of rubbish that littered the area, aluminum cans mainly and with each beep of the E-Trac Metal Detector, I had to check what it was just in case it may have been Bricky’s lost ring, but it was always an aluminum or old steel beer can, which obviously vented my frustration as well as Brickys.

As I searched along the road, alot of Gold Mine vehicles past the area where I was searching, it was a bit embarrassing, because they must have thought I was looking for gold nuggets along the side of the road, as I dug little spots and emptied the leaf litter in my metal detecting sieve, but I just ignored them and concentrated on finding Brickys lost gold wedding ring.

It was pouring with rain on and off and within a couple of hours I was starting to lose hope of finding his ring, but I did not mention that to Bricky. He even said to me, I think it is time we give up, and I replied, “Never give in mate!” “It’s gotta be here somewhere!”

I searched an area of about 500 metres long on the winding road, starting off on the very edge of the bitumen to the leaf litter and puddles of the side of the road.

It was now about 2 and a half hours into the search, and Bricky was walking alongside me in his shorts and wet Ugg Boots ( I did tell him to get out of the rain and wait in the car to stay dry, but he persited in trying to find his ring)  and as I swung the detector with my aching arm, I got a nice beep and saw his now found gold wedding ring in the centre of my metal detecting coil.

The Lost Gold Wedding Ring found in roadside leaf litter!

The Lost Gold Wedding Ring found in roadside leaf litter!

I said “Got it!” and Bricky stared at the ring in utter disbelief and then picked it up speechless!

I shook his hand, and he was very happy, saying to me that the ring will never leave his hand again! He rang up his wife straight away and he was just as happy! Having told him that seconds before she said a quick prayer to her deceased Mum for his ring to be found!

So I am glad Bricky now has his wedding ring back. Thanks Bricky for your generous reward mate! It was great to see you again and to have a chat to you!

Thanks for reading my post!

Metal Detecting Kharma

Bunbury couple Peter and Kiah reunited with Kiahs Lost Beautiful Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring

Bunbury couple Peter and Kiah reunited with Kiahs Lost Beautiful Gold and Diamond Wedding Ring

A couple days ago I received a a phonecall from Peter who told me that his wife Kiah had lost her ring whilst she, Peter and their kids were kicking the football around. Peter told me Kiah felt her ring literally fly off her finger as she raised her arms in the air to catch the football.

Peter asked if I would be interested in driving to Capel, near Bunbury to do a search for her lost wedding ring. It sounded to me that it would be a pretty easy task of finding the ring, because Kiah, felt the ring come off her finger, and they knew approximately where it may have fallen.

This happened two weeks ago, no matter how hard they searched on their hands and knees on the grass, they just had no luck on finding the ring.

I said, I just hope a Crow or Magpie had not seen the Gold and Diamond Ring shining in the sunlight, and picked it up, as they were attracted to shiny things. He got a bit worried when I told him that.

I think Peter must have found my site by doing a search of Perth Metal Detecting Hire or Bunbury Metal Detecting Hire and my website came up number one on Google …. Thanks Google!

I told Peter I would have a sleep on it, and  I would contact him the next day after he sent me an email with more details about the lost ring. I also told him that if I could not do the job, I’d find someone who could do the job.

Next day after sleeping on the thought on finding the lost wedding ring, which obviously carried a huge amount of sentimental value to Kiah, I thought, I had no choice, but to help out with the search and retrieval of her lost ring.

It was a great opportunity to head to the Western Australian coastal town of Bunbury to do two things, as mentioned, to  find Kiah’s lost wedding ring and to find myself a small aluminum boat which I could use for metal detecting around rivers, lakes, and inlets, places where people might picnic, swim, ski and socialise.

THIS IS WHERE THE KHARMA KICKS IN!

I arrived at Peter and Kia’s place, and they were just about to leave on a business meeting, and I just caught them in time.

We introduced ourselves, and my dogs ToTo, Georgie and Charlie to their old faithful Labradore dog, Saxon, and in the corner of my eye, I saw a little Aluminum Tinny Boat in Peters garage. I asked Peter if he was interested in selling the boat, and told him that was one of the other reasons I wanted to come to Bunbury … to find myself a boat … just like his!

Peter told me, that he had been thinking of selling it, and I said, well think it over, while I do the lost ring search.

They both showed me the area where they believed it was lost, just opposite their house, and they had even marked out the approximate area with sport’s witches hats, which would make my search much easier.

I got to work, and Peter and Kiah went back to their house, to get ready for their meeting in town. I said I might find it pretty quick, so I was hoping I would find it before they had to leave for their meeting.

Low and behold, 5 minutes later, I found it, just hidden beneath some blades of grass, out of eye sight!

Wow, I thought, that is definitely a beautiful ring, made from solid gold, and three huge diamonds, a ring I’d love to find at the beach.

I then snuck up the house with my video camera turned on, (Just like my Canadian friend metal detectorist Chris Turner does) and surprised Kiah with her ring! She was awestruck and had a huge smile on her face, with a touch of emotion, happiness and disbelief.

I used my video camera, because I want to be able to put some videos on YouTube.com, but it’s too hard to work out!

The Minelab Metal Detector does it’s awesome job again!

Peter was very happy as well.

And guess what, he offered his boat and trailer for $600 minus the $300 he was going to give me for a reward, so I got the boat and trailer for $300, making us all very happy customers!

We said our goodbyes, and I went and bought myself a fully reconditioned 15 Horsepower Mercury Outboard Motor, from Millard Marine in Bunbury … costing me four times as much as the boat and trailer.

A new Metal Detecting Tool to add to my collection!

My new Metal Detecting Tool - 3.4 Metre Aluminum Boat and Trailer with 15 HP Mercury Motor

My new Metal Detecting Tool - 3.4 Metre Aluminum Boat and Trailer with 15 HP Mercury Motor

Thats what you call Kharma!

Email from Peter tonight

Hi Bill

Today was a great day in many ways. Thanks for your effort to drive the distance. The Boat was really amazing as I had been just beaten by time to do anything about it and it was previously a gift from my old employer…who is now 88 and still making it to work every now and again.

Kiah was so stoked today. Thanks and I’m really pleased the boat has a new home and grateful owner.

Best regards

Peter

Car Crash I witnessed in Bunbury

Car Crash I witnessed in Bunbury

Also as I was on my way out of Bunbury, I witnessed a car crash, between a 4wd and a small car, both drivers were unhurt, although the girl driving the car in the photo, was in shock, I helped her out of the car, along with some other bystanders.

The poor guy who hit her, was in a lot of distress also, being on his way to see his wife who is in hospital with cancer, I pray that all will work out with his wife. He said he was in the wrong, I think he ran a redlight, possibly very concerned about his wife and not thinking about the traffic lights. Lets hope all is good on his side and the girl whose car he wrote off.

Amanda’s Lost Rings Found!

Amanda's Lost Silver Black Opal Ring - Found at Hillarys Beach

Amanda's Lost Silver Black Opal Ring - Found at Hillarys Beach

Around two weeks ago I received a frantic phonecall from a girl by the name of Amanda who told me she lost two rings at Hillarys Beach just North of Perth. She asked me if there was any chance I could help her.

I said that by chance I was on my way up to Perth that day for a few days and I would be able to do a search for her.

I know Hillarys Beach pretty well as I had been there previously many times in search for another persons lost wedding ring, but the search for that ring has been fruitless … but I never give up and I always look for it when visiting Perth.

Amanda was pretty upset, because one of the rings was a gift to her Mother from her father, so it carried an enormous amount of sentimental value to her.

She described the place where she thought that she had lost it, and I knew roughly where to search.

around two days later I found the time to head down to Hillarys Beach, and within a few minutes I had found the first ring, a nice silver ring, with what looks to be a black opal or another precious stone inside it. So I was really happy to have found the first ring. And now the search was on for the next ring.

A few days before I went to Hillarys a big storm front came through and the water was washing directly over the spot where Amanda had lost her rings, so I was thinking maybe it had moved away from the spot, or another Metal Detectorist had found it.

She actually lost both her rings next to a wire fence, so I knew that the wire would be interferring with my metal detector, so I decided to get the shovel out and start digging all the top sand away from the fence, and then wave my detecting over the beach sand with I threw in an area behind me, and low and behold, that worked, I waved the detector over, got a nice 12.09 reading with my Minelab E-trac and found it! So I was really happy.

Amanda's Lost Gold and Diamond Ring - Found at Hillarys Beach

Amanda's Lost Gold and Diamond Ring - Found at Hillarys Beach

Amanda works away on the mines, she is a geologist, so a couple days later when I got back home, I decided to ring Amanda and tell her the good news.

She was estatic, screaming out with joy and relief! I felt great also, knowing that I am going to reunite Amanda with her lost rings. She has learnt a lesson, don’t wear your rings to the beach, and a few other things that I told her and she told me!

I am meeting up with Amanda this week, to reunite her with her rings, she told me the reward and that made my day, very generous, so thank you Amanda for calling me!

Successful Recovery – Lost Engagement Ring Found!

I got a call a few days ago from a girl desperate for help to find her Engagement Ring she lost playing Volleyball with her husband in their backyard pool.

She actually lost both her Wedding Ring and her Engagement Ring, and succesfully found her wedding ring after a quick search, but no luck finding her engagement ring.

What had happened was that as she hit the volleyball using an upper swing motion, both her rings had come offer her wedding ring finger. Obviously being in the water, her fingers had shrunk a little and this loosened her rings.

She hired a Metal Detector, but had no luck, so in desperation she turned to me to help her find it.

So yesterday I went to her place, and started a search with my metal detector. It was very hot, around 35 degrees celcius, once a started I got a few readings which I though may have bought me some luck.

Unfortunately they were just false readings, due to the amount of metal around her yard, such as copper pipes, underground electrical wires from the swimming pool pump, and various other pieces of usual metal bits which were on the surface on her garden bed, such as pulltabs, beer bottle tops, pieces of wire etc.

Also she had a vine type plant which was spread across most of her garden next to her swimming pool, and that was really quite hard to search through after potential signals were heard via my Koss metal detecting headphones.

I used both my metal detectors, My Minelab Excallibur, even though this is used really for Beach and Water detecting, the sand here is basically Beach Sand which is millions of years old, the other detector I used was my Minelab E-Trac.

After about two hours I was beginning to lose hope that I would not find it, also due to the fact that her lost ring may have gone over her neighbours fence due to the force of her hand hitting the volleyball. I even climbed up on her roof, just in case her ring went flying high and landed on top of her house roof.

She also had a few little kids, and I was thinking maybe one of her little kids may have picked it up and misplaced it.

I climbed up and the roof was so hot, you could have cooked an egg on there it was that hot!

Anyhow, I climbed down, did another search in her garden and finally got a good clear reading and much to her delight I found her Lost Engagegemt Ring! It was near her fence and just below the surface of the sandy soil.

She was so happy, I gave her a big hug, because I was also very happy that I helped find her lost engagement ring and put that lost smile back on her face!

I will soon put a photo of her on the site along with the photo of her lost engagement ring I successfully found with my metal detector.

So many things come to mind when I am searching for peoples lost jewelry, rings, watches, wedding bands etc. But the main thing is you just want to find it and make that person happy again.

Losing something, such as a ring, bracelet, watch etc is awful, you get that awful feeling in the pit of your stomach, no different that losing a loved one or a pet, and knowing that you may never see it again is just plain horrible.

If you live in Western Australia, and have lost a piece of jewellery at the beach, in a park, at a river etc, before you pay for a Lost and Found Ad in The West Australian Newspaper, or the Quokka Lost and Found Section or any other local West Australian newspaper, please either email me, of call me, I may be able to help you recover your beautiful lost sentimental piece of jewellery.

Great to have another success story via My West Australian Lost and Found Missing Jewellery Recovery Services!

Cheers
